The Formal Theory Section of the American Political Science Association is a forum for scholars who use formal theory in their research. Established in 2020, the Section brings together members who use game theory, social choice theory, mechanism design, and related mathematical tools to study political phenomena across substantive subfields. The Section supports and advocates on behalf of its members by organizing panels at the Annual Meeting, conducting business meetings, facilitating communication among members, providing resources for teaching and research, and working to broaden the appeal and accessibility of formal theoretic research.
